Study Task 2-Colour For Print

 CMYK (process)

Packaging and Promotion
The bottle lable designed were designed by Jaga Nara a graphic designer from Vancouver, I really like them, they are individual and a bit different which makes them stand out for me, they have been printed with CMYK printing, probably so they can be mass produced easily and printed reasonably cheaply from something that will possibly be thrown away after.

Some toothpaste packaing here designed by Veronica Clauss, printed with CMYK printing, I think the colour pallate used works really well, when you think bathroom you think blue so I think she did a job job in choosing blue as her main colour and the white makes you think of clean which is apt to use on toothpaste packaging.

This is a really nicely printed book I came across, the illustrator who did the illustrtaions must of considered how the final images would be printed in the publications because the colours have printed really well and have considered the colour range cmyk can print.

Spot Colour (2 or more)

Publishing and Editorial
This is a series of typographic designs by design company My name is Wendy. They have used a different spot colour in each design, I think spot colour can often look tacky but I think the way it has been used here is not tacky at all, the colours chosen are bright and eye catching and it works well as a series.

This is a piece of design from design studio Survival Mode, it is a portfolio site of Jan Estrada Osmycki from Warsaw. Again like the design before Jan has used spot colour in a non-tacky well thought out way. The use of the pale orange spot colour works with the layout and just makes it a bit more special and helps it to stand out.

Branding and Identity
This is the work of graphic designer Julien Lauzon this is his design for the identity of canadian fashion boutique Miss U/Uman. I love the spot colour he has used on these designs, I think it works especially well on the black stock it is really vibrant and stands out.

Branding and Identity
This identity for Roam was designed by Mark Gowing, Roam is a digital hardware company, the logo is very simple and was designed by drawing associations with technology which relates to the companies products. I think it stands out as a identity due to its simplicity and brightness, I have noticed a lot of designers who use spot colour go for bright and eye catching colours.

Packaging and Promotion
Here is some packing for alcoholic drink called Feni by Marx design company, its produced in Goa so they tried to use the colours from the region, so here the spot colours have relevance to the design, I also like the shape of the bottle which is also influenced by the place its come from.

Monochrome & Tints (solid colour and half-tone)

Publishing and Editorial
Jan-Kristof Lipp is an art director and editorial designer from Berlin, this is one poster from a range of posters he has designed. He has used monochrome printing, it's made up of one solid colour, black and then he has used half tones to make up the rest of the poster. I think monochrome printing is a one of my favourite printing methods, I like its simplicity and cleanness.

Publishing and Editorial
This is a small publication of Fanzines by Say What Studio called Found, it is a collection of forgotten photos. Firstly I really like the composition and layout of this publication, the format is different from your standard A size which is always a refreshing thing to see and secondly all the images are in monochrome blue ink which gives the publication a different feel from maybe one that uses standard black and white monochorome.

This is a CD case is again by designer Mark Gowing, the images used on the cover are of natural textures which is to represent the music that is on the album. I like the simplicity of this album cover which I think also reflects the music and message the artist is trying to project, also the use of the over laying of the monochrome images which create tints is well done.

Packaging for honey by TKTJ Design, its designed around the idea of honey being so basic, I think the choice to use monochrome colours adds to its simplistic design, it tells you what it is and thats it, basic and simple in design, colour and product.

 Branding and Identity
This is branding for Carfi designed by Quebe Konstrukt, its good a really good use of half tones, it shows that even just using one colour you can create a whole range of things by using half tones.
